Why an Insurance Coverage page matters for AI and for you
I want to show you something important. Many buyers ask AI for “licensed and insured” businesses. Venues, property managers, and corporate teams do this every day. If your insurance is not clear on your site, AI often skips you. It is not personal. It is risk.
Here is what I see every day: a contractor loses a good lead because the venue needs a COI and AI picked another vendor who showed it. I do not want that for you.
Make one clean page called “Insurance Coverage.” Put it in your main menu and your footer. Keep it up to date. Trust me on this — it takes less time than you think.
Action today: create a new page draft named “Insurance Coverage” or “Proof of Insurance.”
What to put on the page (keep it simple)
Use plain words. You are writing for customers and for AI. Put these items on the page:
- ▸Policies you carry: General Liability, Professional Liability/Errors & Omissions (if you advise or design), Workers’ Compensation, Commercial Auto (if you drive for work), Umbrella/Excess, and any Bond (if required in your trade).
- ▸Your coverage limits (example: General Liability: $1M per occurrence / $2M aggregate).
- ▸Your insurance carrier name and state (example: Travelers, NY). You can mask policy numbers if you want (show last 4 digits only).
- ▸Effective and expiration dates (write dates like 2026-04-30 so tools read them clearly).
- ▸How to request a Certificate of Insurance (COI): give a simple email and form. Say how fast you send it (example: within 1 business day). Add any fees (often free).
- ▸Who is insured: your legal business name and any DBAs.
- ▸Where this applies: your service area, states, or countries.
- ▸Safety steps you follow (short list): training, PPE, background checks, or site rules.
- ▸A sample COI PDF or clear image (no private data). Mark it “sample.”
Action today: gather your latest COI and limits, and write a short bullet list for each policy.
How to write it so AI reads it right
Keep the page clean. Use short headings like “Policies,” “Limits,” “Dates,” and “Request a COI.” Put the most important facts at the top.
Use clear lines like these:
- ▸Business name: Bright Roof LLC (DBA Bright Roofs)
- ▸General Liability: $1,000,000 per occurrence / $2,000,000 aggregate
- ▸Carrier: Travelers (USA)
- ▸Effective: 2026-05-01 | Expires: 2027-04-30
- ▸COI requests: email coi@brightroof.com — sent within 1 business day
Avoid only images. Write the facts in text so AI can read them. If you add a sample COI image, add alt text like “Sample Certificate of Insurance for Bright Roof LLC.” Use one stable URL: yoursite.com/insurance. Link it from your footer, Contact page, and About page.
If you update a policy, update this page the same day. Note the update date at the top: “Last updated 2026-08-13.”
Action today: publish your first version at /insurance and link it in your footer.
How AI and buyers will use this page (and common mistakes)
Here is what happens when you do this right. A buyer asks, “Find a photographer who is insured and can send a COI by tomorrow.” AI looks for clear proof on your site. It sees your policies, limits, dates, and COI steps. It picks you.
Common mistakes I see:
- ▸Expired dates on the page. AI treats you as risky.
- ▸Only saying “fully insured” with no details. AI cannot confirm it.
- ▸Hiding the info in a PDF only. Some tools cannot parse it.
- ▸No COI process listed. Corporate buyers move on.
Fix these and you will win more safe, higher‑value jobs.
Action today: set a calendar reminder to check this page on the first of every month.
Quick checklist to finish fast
Use this to wrap up:
- ▸One page at /insurance with clear headings
- ▸Policies listed with limits
- ▸Carrier named; dates in YYYY-MM-DD
- ▸COI request email and response time
- ▸Sample COI (optional), with alt text
- ▸Linked in footer, Contact, and About
- ▸“Last updated” date at the top
